MomsRising Together Makes First-Ever Independent Expenditures,
Supporting 25 Candidates for Congress Who Will Make a Difference for Moms

November 1, 2018

MomsRising Together, a million member grassroots powerhouse, today announced that it has made independent expenditures of more than $200,000 in support of a slate of 25 female congressional candidates from 21 states. The 24 candidates for the House of Representatives are all challengers. MomsRising Together is also making independent expenditures in support of incumbent U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND).

“Moms are poised to power the 2018 election,” Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising Together, an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families. “We want what’s best for our kids, our families, and our future and we support candidates who want that too. That’s why we are voting for candidates who will work to protect the health care coverage our loved ones need and who support fair pay, affordable childcare, racial and maternal justice, and much more. 2018 is the year when moms are digging a bit deeper, pushing a little harder, and doing more for democracy. Every candidate who we’re supporting is doing that, too. Many of them are first-time candidates, inspired to run to make the world a better place for moms and their families.”

MomsRising Together supports candidates who mirror its membership and the country, and supports moms, women and women of color who are running for office. In selecting candidates to support in 2018, the organization also looks for places where moms can have an impact, prioritizing close races and, this year, strategic races where emerging leaders can rise and make a significant difference.

MomsRising Together takes on the most critical issues facing women, mothers and families by educating the public and mobilizing massive grassroots actions to:

  • Bring the voices and real world experiences of women and mothers straight to our local, state and national leaders;
  • Amplify women’s voices and policy issues in the national dialogue and in the media across all platforms (from print, to radio, to blogs, social media, and more);
  • Accelerate grassroots impact on Capitol Hill and at state capitols across the country; and
  • Hold corporations accountable for fair treatment of women and mothers and for ensuring the safety of their products.
