Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising Together, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on President Biden’s announcement that he and Vice President Harris are running for re-election:
“President Biden and Vice President Harris have been powerful champions for moms and for the care infrastructure our nation urgently needs, as well as for abortion rights, health care, gun violence prevention, women’s and civil rights, and for our fundamental freedoms. They understand that families cannot succeed without quality, affordable child, elder, and disability care as well as comprehensive paid family and medical leave; that communities cannot succeed unless we invest in health care and create economic opportunity; that our maternal health system is in crisis; that the scourge of assault weapons is undermining our safety; and that we need a tax system that requires everyone – including the wealthiest individuals and corporations – to pay their fair share.
“At a time when a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives is hostile to women’s rights, when our highest court is utterly failing to protect our basic liberties, and when states are banning books, attacking trans youth, undermining public education, and denying our access to essential reproductive health care, the Biden/Harris administration is fighting to protect moms, families, and all those at risk.
“MomsRising Together will work tirelessly to underscore what is at stake in upcoming elections, organizing moms to turn out and vote for the candidates who share our goals and values in 2024. A second Biden/Harris administration would be good for moms, good for families and good for America.”
