A Champion for America’s Moms, Tim Walz Completes a Spectacularly Strong, Pro-Care, Pro-Choice Ticket

Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising Together, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to complete the Democratic ticket this year:

“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is a brilliant choice for vice president. He’s lifted families, businesses and the economy by signing one of the country’s strongest paid family and medical leave bills into law, protecting access to abortion care, championing free school meals, signing a state Child Tax Credit when Republicans in Congress shamefully ended the expanded federal Child Tax Credit, overseeing record Affordable Care Act enrollment in Minnesota, and fighting to lower prescription drug costs for Minnesotans. Gov. Walz is a gun owner who supports sensible gun violence prevention measures, including a ban on assault weapons. His nuanced approach to immigration, including his support for DREAMers and staunch opposition to former President Trump’s cruel, dangerous anti-immigrant positions, reflects the views of the majority of the country.

“Now that the Democratic ticket has been completed, it’s clear that voters have a stark choice this November. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are an incredibly accomplished pair who are primed to build on the successful Biden administration work and will build a brighter future for families: where child care is affordable, paid family and medical leave guaranteed, our reproductive freedom secure, equitable maternal care and affordable health care a priority, and the wealthiest corporations and individuals finally pay their fair share. The Trump/Vance team, on the other hand, will sow division and dissent, foment racism and hate, and take us backward.

“America’s moms want a strong economic future with a robust care infrastructure, secure access to reproductive health care, and safety from the scourge of gun violence – not a return to the past.”
