Powered by frustration that Republicans in the U.S. Senate blocked progress on making child care affordable, restoring our access to abortion, guaranteeing working people paid leave, improving maternal health care, and more, America’s moms are mobilizing for the upcoming election. MomsRising Together is leading that mobilization and has supported 25 congressional candidates this year. The organization is sending mail and text messages, running digital and radio ads in English and Spanish, and running a multi-faceted campaign to turn out infrequent mom voters for those candidates this November to Democratic mom voters who voted in 2020 but not in 2016. This work is informed by public opinion research commissioned by MomsRising Together from Lake Research Partners, and uses positive messaging focused on reproductive rights paired with paid family and medical leave, child care and gun safety.

Already underway, MomsRising Together’s outreach is supporting nine U.S. Senate candidates: Mandela Barnes (WI), Cheri Beasley (NC), Val Demings (FL), John Fetterman (PA), Maggie Hasson (NH), Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Patty Murray (WA), Tim Ryan (OH), and Raphael Warnock (GA).

It is also supporting 16 U.S. House of Representatives candidates: Cori Bush (MO-1), Yadira Caraveo (CO-8), Angie Craig (MN-2), Sharice Davids (KS-3), Kirsten Engel (AZ-6), Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-3), Jahana Hayes (CT-5), Chrissy Houlahan (PA-6), Mary Peltola (AK), Marie Gluesenkamp (WA-3), Katie Porter (CA-47), Kim Schrier (WA-8), Elissa Slotkin (MI-7), Annette Taddeo (FL-27), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Michelle Vallejo (TX-15).

“Moms are fired up to vote this year,” said MomsRising Together Executive Director and CEO Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “We’re motivated by the U.S. Supreme Court denying us access to abortion care; Republicans in Congress denying us paid family and medical leave, affordable child and elder care, and the care infrastructure every society needs; lawmakers who bow to the gun lobby, forcing us to worry every day about keeping our kids safe; and lawmakers who have utterly failed to create a path to citizenship for immigrants who are care and essential workers. Women have been registering to vote in record numbers, and we’re doing a massive amount of work to turn them out.”

The effort, which targets infrequent mom voters, will include:

  • Candidate-specific postcards that carry the message:

Moms are voting to ensure the future we leave for our children is bright. That means voting for [candidate]. Vote for what’s best for our families, our freedoms, and our communities!
  • Spanish-language radio spots running in Spanish language radio in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Reno, Raleigh/Greensboro that carry the message:

As Latinos, we have a culture that values families, our communities, and our freedoms. But Trump Republicans let corporations gouge prices and dodge taxes while they block laws to make health and childcare more affordable so they can divide and distract to get power to rule for the wealthy few…
  • A pilot program to reach Latina voters and fight misinformation through WhatsApp with a bot being created to help Latinas register, learn about issues, find their polling places, and get to the polls.

“This year, our rights and freedoms are on the ballot,” said Donna Norton, MomsRising Together Executive Vice President. “Moms will vote to protect our freedom to decide whether and when to expand our families, our access to health care, our ability to access paid family and medical leave so we can care for our loved ones, our access to quality, affordable child care so we can hold jobs and support our families, and our freedom to keep our schools safe and free from gun violence.”
