House GOP’s ‘Commitment to America’ Would Be a Disaster for America’s Moms, Families

Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the House GOP “Commitment to America” released by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in Pennsylvania this morning.

“Tone deaf. Misguided. Divisive. Those are the best ways to describe the agenda House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy released this morning, which includes no mention of affordable child care, paid family and medical leave, home- and community-based services, an expanded Child Tax Credit, maternal health care, and other issues that shape life for this country’s moms and families. Instead of pledging to build the care infrastructure our country urgently needs, this agenda offers approaches to health care, energy, and other issues that would line the pockets of the wealthy and leave working families behind.

“Further, it ignores the unprecedented, massive crisis the U.S. Supreme Court, packed with Trump appointees confirmed by Republican U.S. Senators, caused by overturning Roe v. Wade. The Dobbs ruling has caused immense chaos and suffering. The country is looking to lawmakers to restore and protect our access to abortion care, secure our bodily autonomy, and ensure that we can all make our own deeply personal decisions about whether and how many children to have. It is very clear House Republicans would exacerbate this crisis rather than securing our personal liberty and access to reproductive health care.

“Their agenda endorses more policing, more prosecutions, more guns, more demonization of immigrants and asylum-seekers, more attacks on trans youth, more work to undermine both our public education system and our election integrity – all of which would cause vastly more division. It is not what America’s moms, or our country, want or need.”
